Puñetas is a funny word quite used by older people in Spain, as it used to be very popular in slang Spanish a few decades ago. It is not used by younger people.

Puñetas are a piece of lace added to ceremonial robes (typically those of lawyers when in court)

That type of embroidery is difficult and cumbersome to work, hence the expressions “Vete a hacer puñetas” or “Hacer la puñeta”
